Denise Seibert Townsend, left, Director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Evansville, and Kristy Herr, Coordinator of Community Outreach Services for Catholic Charities, are shown Aug. 12 at Evansville’s Hampton Inn Airport at the recovery center for families impacted by an Aug. 10 house explosion along North Weinbach Avenue on the city’s east side. Several community partners are currently providing immediate relief to the families, including food, temporary lodging, clothing and financial assistance. Catholic Charities plans to provide assistance as needed through its Outreach Team. Three people died in the blast, and dozens of homes suffered significant damage – some of them rendered no longer habitable.
