College students carry a banner and signs as they lead the group who joined the fifth annual 40 Days for Life prayer vigil and procession Sept. 26. The group walked from Reitz Memorial High School to the Planned Parenthood office on North Weinbach Ave. to kick off the fall 2023 observance of 40 Days for Life, which is Sept. 27 through Nov. 5. The campaign consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting in shifts outside of a clinic or hospital that performs abortions or an abortion referral center. The event was coordinated by the Diocesan Office of Family and Life and Right to Life of Southwest Indiana. The Message will have full coverage of the 40 Days for Life kick-off in the Oct. 6 issue.
