Special to The Message
On Jan. 31, Evansville’s Mater Dei High School and Resurrection School welcomed internationally renowned speaker, author and preacher Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, known as the “Dynamic Deacon,” to speak to students and parishioners. He is a powerful and passionate evangelist and preacher whose no-nonsense approach to living and proclaiming the Catholic faith will challenge and inspire those who hear him.
Deacon Harold spoke to Mater Dei students for his first presentation of the day on the topic "meeting Jesus in the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith." His presentation was engaging and energetic, and it left everyone listening with many great takeaways.
A main topic that Deacon Harold discussed was God's love for us. He stated, "Many young adolescents are unsure if God loves them or where they stand in their faith." He told the story about his first child's birth and the immense love he felt when she was born.
He explained, "The love for my child is like a drop in the ocean compared to what God's love is for us."
Deacon Harold also discussed walking through life with love and faith when today's culture says differently.
For his second talk of the day, Deacon Harold spoke to students in grades seven and eight from Mater Dei’s five partner schools about the importance of being Catholic and embracing their Catholic faith even when it is challenging.
That evening, Deacon Harold spoke at Resurrection Parish on the topic, “Why Be Catholic?”
Thank you, Deacon Harold, for sharing your insights and witness with our students and the community!
