On March 18, Debra Daugherty, a teacher at St. Joseph School in Vanderburgh County, was named the March St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Outstanding Educator by the Diocese of Evansville Catholic Schools Office. Daugherty was surprised by Diocesan Superintendent Michelle Priar, Associate Superintendent Kari Ford and School Support Administrator Lynde Anquillare, who presented her with a certificate and a small gift.
Daugherty is the seventh educator to receive the award since its inception in 2023. She’s in her 18th year of teaching for the diocese.
Her nominator called her an asset to the St. Joe community. The nominator said, “Deb goes above and beyond to ensure that all of her students truly understand the concepts being taught in the classroom. She goes out of her way to provide lessons that are engaging and meaningful to the students. She is always willing to help students outside of school hours as well with tutoring, zoom conferencing for homework questions, and constant communication. Deb even speaks with former St. Joe students who have homework questions for high school and college classes. She has high expectations and helps every child become the best version of themselves. She is a strong teacher leader who creates opportunities for her colleagues to grow as a team and bond.”
Each month, deserving teachers are nominated by their colleagues, and a committee selects one winner. All teachers in the diocese are eligible to receive the award.
