Evansville’s Mater Dei High School announced the appointment of Terry Muensterman as the head coach of the girls basketball team.
A Mater Dei alumnus from the Class of 1973, he brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the role.
“It’s now or never,” Muensterman said in the press release sent by the school. “I have a lot of big plans for these girls and the feeder program. It was really a no-brainer to apply.”
The press release notes Muensterman’s coaching career began in the early 1990s. Between 1990 and 2010, he played a pivotal role in growing the local youth basketball scene, the release states. He led multiple feeder school teams, helped establish a boys third and fourth grade feeder league and helped build a strong foundation of future Wildcats, among other accomplishments.
The release says Muensterman was an assistant coach for the Mater Dei girls basketball program from 2010-2014 and again from 2023-2025. He was a part of two state championship teams in 2012 and 2013.
“The only thing I’ve ever known my whole life is that you outwork people,” Muensterman said in the press release. “If I can get these girls to play together as a team and work harder than their opponent – that’s when magic happens.”
Through the press release, Athletic Director Sam Fleming said Muensterman is a familiar face and respected leader within the community.
“He knows what Mater Dei stands for, and he’s committed to building a program that reflects those values,” Fleming said in the release.
Muensterman takes over for Lucious Wagner, who coached the team the past two years.
