Benedictine Father Michael Reyes, a monk of St. Meinrad Archabbey, was recently ordained as a Roman Catholic priest.
Father Reyes was ordained by Archbishop Charles C. Thompson June 8 at St. Meinrad’s Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad.
Father Michael, 48, is a native of Manila, Philippines. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of the Philippines, a master’s degree in music composition and theory from the University of Nevada and a Doctor of Musical Arts in music composition from the University of Illinois. Father Michael’s work in the music field has received numerous awards in international competitions and concerts. In December 2024, he graduated with a Master of Divinity from St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.
Father Reyes professed solemn vows as a Benedictine monk of St. Meinrad Archabbey in a ceremony Jan. 25, 2023. He serves as director of Benedictine Oblates of St. Meinrad Archabbey, director of St. Meinrad Cultural Events and assists as the choral director of the seminary choir.
