Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
On that first Easter morning, the angel proclaimed to the women at the tomb, “Do not be afraid. The Lord is risen.” This message echoes down through the centuries to us today.
Jesus has triumphed over the darkness that seemed to triumph over Him, and in Him we can do the same. Today, we are overshadowed by the darkness of troubling events in our country and around the world. Closer to home, we may experience the pain of economic struggles, conflict in our homes, serious illness or the loss of a loved one.
Yet, this darkness is pierced by light of the Risen Christ for by His passion, death and resurrection, He has overcome the powers of evil, sin and death. He has made all things new. On this Easter, may we be renewed, so that, like Mary Magdalene, we be witnesses to the new life and hope that the resurrection brings. Let us not be afraid to proclaim His message of hope and peace to our world so much in need of it. Let us not be afraid to be known as His disciples and to live and share our faith actively and fully.
May the Risen Lord bless you and your families with His grace and joy. Be assured that I will remember you in my Easter Masses and prayers, and I ask that you remember me in yours. On behalf of Bishop Gettelfinger and the entire Diocesan staff, I wish you a blessed and grace-filled Easter!

Queridas hermanas y hermanos en Cristo:
En aquella primera mañana de Pascua, el ángel proclamó a las mujeres junto al sepulcro: “No teman. El Señor ha resucitado”. Este mensaje resuena a través de los siglos hasta llegar a nosotros hoy. Jesús ha triunfado sobre la oscuridad que parecía haber triunfado sobre Él, y en Él nosotros podemos hacer lo mismo. Hoy, nos vemos ensombrecidos por la oscuridad de acontecimientos inquietantes en nuestro país y en todo el mundo. Más cerca de nuestro hogar, tal vez experimentemos el dolor de las dificultades económicas, los conflictos en nuestros hogares, las enfermedades graves o la pérdida de un ser querido.
Sin embargo, esta oscuridad es atravesada por la luz de Cristo Resucitado, pues mediante su pasión, muerte y resurrección, Él ha vencido a los poderes del mal, del pecado y de la muerte. Él ha hecho nuevas todas las cosas. En esta Pascua, que seamos renovados para que, al igual que María Magdalena, seamos testigos de la nueva vida y de la esperanza que trae la resurrección. No tengamos miedo de proclamar su mensaje de esperanza y paz a nuestro mundo, tan necesitado de él. No tengamos miedo de ser reconocidos como sus discípulos, y de vivir y compartir nuestra fe de manera activa y plena.
Que el Señor Resucitado los bendiga a ustedes y a sus familias con Su gracia y alegría. Tengan la certeza de que los recordaré en mis Misas y oraciones de Pascua, y les pido que ustedes me recuerden en las suyas. En nombre del Obispo Gettelfinger y de todo el personal diocesano, ¡les deseo una Pascua bendecida y colmada de gracia!
