Sister Karen Sue Durliat to celebrate Golden Jubilee

Special to The Message

On June 27, Benedictine Sister Karen Sue Durliat of the Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Indiana, celebrated her Golden Jubilee, the 50th anniversary of her Monastic Profession.

Sister Karen celebrated her Golden Jubilee at a Jubilee Mass of Thanksgiving at the monastery church in Ferdinand. A reception followed the Mass.

From Custar, Ohio, Sister Karen has a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and a certificate in Hispanic pastoral ministry. She has served as a missionary in Coban, Guatemala; as a high school teacher at Washington Catholic High School and Marian Heights Academy, teaching business and religion classes; as director of Hispanic Ministry in Evansville and as an administrative assistant at the Family Neighborhood Health Center. Sister Karen is currently director of religious education for St. Patrick Parish in Indianapolis.

Sister Karen was attracted to the Ferdinand Benedictine community by the warmth and hospitality of the Sisters, and says that “living with others who are seeking God through prayer, work and hospitality is a wonderful thing.”

Those wishing to celebrate Sister Karen by making a gift to the Sisters of St. Benedict in her honor can do so at thedome.org/donate. As the form is completed, the option to note that it is a gift in honor of a Sister will become available.
