Mater Dei High School is pleased to announce the hire of alumna Kendyl Weinzapfel as the new head coach of the school’s varsity softball program.
A 2019 graduate of Mater Dei, Weinzapfel returns to Mater Dei after a successful playing career that began as a Wildcat. A four-year varsity player, she earned All-SIAC honors during her junior and senior seasons. She was a member of Mater Dei’s 2016 state championship team. She continued her softball career at Austin Peay University, where she became a four-year contributor and was named team captain during her senior season.
“I am so blessed and honored to accept this position,” Weinzapfel said in a press release from the school. “Mater Dei is home for me, and I am eager to make a positive impact on the student-athlete experience.”
Since returning to the Evansville area, Weinzapfel has coached with the Southern Indiana Boom travel softball organization, working with its 11U and 12U programs. Weinzapfel’s coaching experience has focused on fundamentals, player development and building a strong team culture, according to a press release from the school.
“Kendyl knows this program from the player side and understands what it means to be a Wildcat,” Mater Dei Athletic Director Sam Fleming said in the press release. “We’re excited to welcome her back to Mater Die and see her take on this new role leading our softball program.”
