Special to The Message
Holy Trinity Catholic School in Dubois County was recently awarded an Evansville Rotary Club and Love Foundation Tier II classroom enrichment grant for $1,275. First and second grade teachers Andrea Hurm, Bridget Schneider, Kari Seal, Ashley Dupps, Chris Hinkle and Jamie Clauss applied for the Tier II grant in an effort to encourage students to "Dash" into our afterschool STEM Club. The grant will be used to purchase three Dash and Dot robots and starter kits.
These robots will be utilized by first and second grade teachers and students. The Holy Trinity project “Dash’ing Through STEM” will allow the school to incorporate the use of the Dash and Dot robots into its general education classrooms. Students will be able to code the robots to interact with their environments by playing music, catapulting objects, moving throughout an assigned course and more. Once the robots are coded and are able to complete tasks, the plan is to show the kindergarten, prekindergarten and preschool students what they can do. These robots will teach students through a variety of activities that focus on, but are not limited to:
● Project-based learning
● Scientific, computational and design thinking
● Spatial awareness
● Mathematical reasoning
● Creative storytelling
Through the Holy Trinity STEM Club, students are able to enhance employability skills by exploring ways to solve problems and overcome obstacles, and by working cooperatively. This club is offered four times
throughout the school year. STEM Club students will begin using the robots in the fall.
Holy Trinity Catholic School students and staff thank the Evansville Rotary Club and Love Foundation for their support of classroom enrichment.
