Acceptance

Gratitude for the Gift of Faith

“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me” (Matthew 10:40).

Do you ever wonder why it has become so challenging to find truth? Or is it just difficult to accept the truth? I profess with certainty the truth and teachings of Jesus. I am blessed to share my faith with others through various ministries. When I share my faith as a wife and mother and now a grandparent, I find great joy in life!

I have been intentional in seeking fullness in the deposit of faith by educating myself with time, reading and writing. These efforts have provided opportunities I could have never imagined. I served for many years as a catechist in religious education. I continue to facilitate bible studies and adult formation classes in my parish. I facilitated a Catholic Studies Program for a maximum security prison where I taught and volunteered for 17 years.

I have learned so much from the sincere formation and questions of those also seeking truth. If you want to help others know Jesus, you need to know truth and where to find the answers. Don’t be confused by all the information available, using authentic Catholic sources is important. When reading the Bible please ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you, because there are many different viewpoints offered about these teachings.

The division of thought among believers, and our declaration of faith as Christians may have differences, but we should be united in our love for Jesus and the responsibility to save souls.

When I became a grandparent, concern for society’s version of  truth became very real. Children don’t need us to be perfect; they need us to be faithful. And God can take that faithfulness and turn it into something wonderful in due time. I pray my grandchildren will always know and love Jesus.

As children become more aware of the people and ideals that surround them, it is essential to be honest about the darkness seeking their attention in everyday activities, especially with the internet. Make time for conversations about family, neighbors, education, church involvement, sports and their own personal observations about life. Their thoughts are very important and should be discussed to avoid confusion or loss of innocence. Their questions should be answered truthfully and with love — don’t be apprehensive for fear of offending someone. Speaking truth is difficult, but life without Jesus is impossible!

God’s laws and our Christian duties are meant to unite us and prevent confusion. There is no ambiguity in God’s teachings or his love for us! Our salvation story in Sacred Scripture is filled with oracles about repentance and trust in God. In the typology of Old Testament prophecy and New Testament fulfillment, we witness hope in God’s mercy. Jesus taught us to love God the Father, to be his witness and to never be afraid! Jesus is counting on us to accept his truth — be faithful!

If you are truly following Jesus, whoever receives you will receive him! Amen!
