Angie Wayne, a teacher at St. John the Baptist School in Newburgh, was named the January St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Outstanding Educator by the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office. On Jan. 25, Wayne was surprised by Diocesan Superintendent Michelle Priar, Associate Superintendent Kari Ford and School Support Administrator Lynde Anquillare, to present her with a certificate and a small gift.
Wayne is the fifth educator to receive the award since its inception in 2023. She’s in her seventh year of teaching for the diocese.
Her nominator said, “Angie goes above and beyond for her students. All of her students grow academically, socially and emotionally. She makes great accommodations to ensure that all are being successful, creating a love of learning, and prepared for middle school. This year particularly there have been new needs for some of her students and she has continued to go above and beyond and with a positive attitude. … The effort she puts into the development of their faith life is unmatched. … She is truly a teacher leader!”
Each month, deserving teachers are nominated by their colleagues, and a committee selects one winner. All teachers in the diocese are eligible to receive the award.
