Bishop Joseph M. Siegel has granted a dispensation from the obligation to abstain from meat on March 17, which is St. Patrick’s Day, to the faithful of the Diocese of Evansville and travelers who are present in the Diocese of Evansville.
In announcing the dispensation, Bishop Siegel also reminded the faithful who take advantage of this dispensation that they are to substitute another form of penance and self-denial, such as a spiritual or corporal work of mercy, or additional prayers.
