Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On the first Easter evening, two disciples encountered the Risen Lord as they walked from Jerusalem to Emmaus, and He opened their minds to the mystery of His death and resurrection. Then, and in the “breaking of the bread,” they recognized Him as their beloved Master and friend, whom they thought they had lost. At that moment, their overwhelming grief was transformed into incredible joy.
All our ways in life are meant to be Emmaus journeys. If we have the eyes of faith, then we too will recognize Him walking beside us, comforting us in our struggles and sorrows, and bringing us to a deeper understanding of the dyings and risings of our lives. We encounter the Risen Christ most profoundly in the celebration of the Eucharist. At each Mass, the power of Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross is made present to us; and in Holy Communion, He comes to us personally and intimately to fill us with His life. Having thus come to know Him “in the breaking of the bread,” we are sent forth to share Whom and what we have experienced with others.
It will be my prayer at Mass this Easter that you and your family will encounter the Risen Lord in a new and more profound way, especially in the Eucharist, and allow yourself to be transformed by His love, mercy, joy and peace.

PASCUA 2023 - El mensaje de Pascua del Obispo Siegel
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
En la primera noche de Pascua, dos discípulos encontraron a El Señor Resucitado cuando estaban caminando desde Jerusalén hasta Emaús, y Él abrió sus mentes al misterio de Su muerte y su resurrección. Entonces, y en la “partición del pan,” ellos Lo reconocieron como su Maestro amado y amigo, a quien pensaron que habían perdido. En ese momento, su abrumadora tristeza fue transformada en una alegría increíble.
Todos nuestros caminos en la vida deben ser viajes de Emaús. Si nosotros tenemos los ojos de la fe, entonces nosotros también lo reconoceremos a Él caminando junto a nosotros, reconfortándonos en nuestras luchas y penas, y trayéndonos hacia un entendimiento más profundo de la agonías y levantamientos de nuestras vidas. Nosotros encontramos al Cristo Resucitado más profundamente en la celebración de la Eucaristía. En cada Misa, el poder del sacrificio de Cristo en la cruz se hace presente en nosotros; y en la Santa Comunión, Él viene a nosotros personal e íntimamente para llenarnos con Su vida. Habiendo llegado a conocerlo a Él “en la partición del pan,” somos enviados para compartir a Quién y qué hemos experimentado con otros.
Será mi oración en la Misa en esta Pascua que usted y su familia encuentren al Señor Resucitado de una manera nueva y más profunda, especialmente en la Eucaristía, y que se permita a usted mismo ser transformado por Su amor, misericordia, alegría y paz.
