Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
“Peace be with you” was Jesus’ greeting to His disciples that Resurrection day. Coming into their midst, the Risen Lord reassured His terrified apostles that He was indeed alive and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. As the apostles journeyed on from that day, they would face uncertainly, suffering, injustice, and for all but one, a martyrs death. Yet the presence of the Holy Spirit and the gift of Jesus’ peace gave them the courage to life and proclaim the Gospel message.
Our times are no less uncertain than those of the apostles. As during Holy Week and Easter, we recall and celebrate the Lord’s suffering, death and resurrection 2000 years ago, we also acknowledge that Jesus continues to suffer and struggle in the lives of countless people around the world today. As an Easter people, let us pray for the Risen Lord’s gift of peace: peace in the world, peace in our country, peace in our families and peace in our hearts.
Be assured that I will remember you in my Easter Masses and prayers, and I ask that you remember me in yours. On behalf of Bishop Gettelfinger and the entire Diocesan staff, I wish you a blessed and grace-filled Easter!

Queridos Hermanas y Hermanos en Cristo,
“La paz esté con ustedes” fue el saludo de Jesús a Sus discípulos ese día de Resurrección. Llegando en medio de ellos, el Señor Resucitado les aseguró a Sus apóstoles aterrorizados de que Él en realidad estaba vivo y respiró sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo. A medida que los apóstoles continuaron su viaje desde ese día, debieron enfrentar incertidumbre, sufrimiento, injusticia, y para todos menos unos, la muerte de un mártir. Sin embargo la presencia del Espíritu Santo y el don de la paz de Jesús les dio la valentía de la vida y de proclamar el mensaje del Evangelio.
Nuestros tiempos no son menos inciertos que los de los apóstoles. Como en la Semana Santa y la Pascua, nosotros recordamos y celebramos el sufrimiento del Señor, la muerte y la resurrección de hace 2000 años, también reconocemos que Jesús continúa sufriendo y luchando en las vidas de innumerables personas alrededor del mundo hoy. Como personas de Pascua, oremos por el don de la paz del Señor Resucitado: paz en el mundo, paz en nuestro país, paz en nuestras familias y paz en nuestros corazones.
Tengan la seguridad de que yo los recordaré en mis Misas de Pascua y oraciones, y les pido que ustedes me recuerden en las suyas. En nombre del Obispo Gettelfinger y todo el personal dicesano, ¡yo les deseo una Pascua bendecida y llena de gracia!
