Happy 100th birthday, Sister Mary Carmel!

On Aug. 16, Deacon Dan Niemeier, president of Mater Dei High School in Evansville, and his wife, Laura, had the joy of celebrating Sister Mary Carmel Spayd’s 100th birthday and sharing the love and good wishes of the entire Mater Dei community. Sister Mary Carmel served Mater Dei as a teacher from 1962-1966, and then she served as principal from 1967-1981. Deacon Dan shared, “It was a great honor and privilege for Laura and me to represent the Mater Dei community at the celebration of Sister Mary Carmel’s birthday celebration. Our entire Mater Dei community is extremely grateful to her and all of the Sisters of St. Benedict from the Monastery Immaculate Conception who served as administrators and teachers for our students and families so beautifully throughout the 75-year history of our beloved Mater Dei.” The group picture includes Sister Mary Carmel, front row second from left, all of the sisters in attendance who were students and/or teachers at Mater Dei, and Deacon Dan and his wife, Laura, back row far right.
