On Oct. 25, Kristie Fisher, a prekindergarten teacher at Flaget Elementary School in Vincennes, was named the October St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Outstanding Educator by the Diocese of Evansville Catholic Schools Office. Fisher was surprised by Diocesan Superintendent Michelle Priar, Associate Superintendent Kari Ford and School Support Administrator Lynde Anquillare, who presented her with a certificate and a small gift.
Fisher is the 10th educator to receive the honor since its inception in 2023. She is in her 24th year of teaching for the diocese.
A nominator said Fisher is the “most positive, encouraging educator that I know. She comes to school with a smile daily ready to teach her pre-k kids both academics and life skills. Kristie single-handedly kept the pre-k program alive during the 2021-22 school year, when the other preschool teacher quit right before school started. She took on both preschool and pre-k with dozens of children in each section by herself. Many of those students, despite having Kristie go back and forth between classrooms all day, still showed significant achievement when entering kindergarten and first grade.”
The nominator continued and said Fisher volunteers annually at several school events. The nominator said Fisher “goes above and beyond every single day.”
Each month, deserving teachers are nominated by their colleagues, and a committee selects one winner. All teachers in the diocese are eligible to receive the award.
