“I was honored and humbled to receive the chaplain award,” Father Tenbarge said. “This recognition belongs not just to me, but to the faithful men and women of our Legatus chapter whose love for Christ and His church inspires me to serve them. It has been a privilege to serve alongside people who strive to bring their faith into their families, workplaces and our community.”

Bishop Joseph M. Siegel said he is grateful to Father Tenbarge for the time and energy he has dedicated as chaplain of the Evansville chapter in the early years of its formation and growth. It is great to see that his efforts and accomplishments have been recognized by the leadership of Legatus, Bishop Siegel said.

Dean Happe, Diocese of Evansville Chancellor and COO, said this honor is a fitting recognition for Father Tenbarge.

“Father Tyler’s selection as Legatus National Chaplain of the Year is a fitting recognition of his faithful priesthood, authentic witness and dedication to helping others grow closer to Christ,” Happe said. “The Diocese of Evansville and our local Legatus chapter are blessed by his leadership and proud to see his service recognized on the national level.”

According to the press release from Legatus announcing the award, Father Tenbarge has become a spiritual anchor for Legatus members and their families. The release states that through the celebration of Mass, time spent in Eucharistic adoration, the sacrament of Reconciliation and thoughtful spiritual guidance, he has helped cultivate a culture where faith is not simply discussed, but actively lived.

“Legatus chapter meetings are designed to nourish the spiritual lives of Catholic executives, and Father Tenbarge has embraced this mission wholeheartedly,” the release states. “His presence encourages members to integrate their Catholic faith into every aspect of their lives — within their families, businesses and communities.”

The National Chaplain of the Year award celebrates priests whose leadership strengthens the mission of Legatus, which is to study, live and spread the Catholic faith in both professional and personal life.

Founded in 1987, Legatus brings together Catholic CEOs and business leaders, along with their spouses, in a unique community of faith, fellowship and formation. With more than 5,000 members across over 90 chapters, Legatus equips leaders to become ambassadors for Christ in the marketplace.
