Let’s focus on the future

THE CATHOLIC KITCHEN

My brothers and sisters in Christ,

There are times, when gathered in our Catholic kitchens, that we sink into conversations about the woes of the world around us. In this respect, 2020 will have a special place at the table for years to come. However, as Catholics, we are not called to get stuck in the mud of despair but to evangelize the world around us, preaching the Gospel of Good News.

In October, we focused on the respect and dignity of all persons. In November, we gave thanks for the many blessings we have been given; and in December, we will celebrate the Christ Mass. As Catholics, how can we despair in light of the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ to shepherd us toward the green pastures of our Father’s house?

As we exit a year that will be remembered in history, let us focus ourselves on the future. As we think about our resolutions for the New Year, let us include at least one resolution that will bring us and those around us closer to Jesus Christ. We cannot separate the spiritual from the physical; and so, if we are to resolve to become more truly whole, then we must look to our Lord, who was fully human and fully divine, that we might seek to become fully human through the divinity of Christ Jesus.

Everyone can do this no matter where they are in their faith journey. And for those who are willing but don’t know where to begin, email me ([email protected]) and we will start on the path together.

As for the Office of Family & Life, one of our New Year’s resolutions is to resurrect Project Rachel in the Diocese of Evansville. Project Rachel is a post-abortion healing ministry that seeks to bring the healing grace of God’s love to all of those who have been touched by abortion. Much work has been done to lay a solid foundation for this ministry, and the time has come to open wide the doors. We begin Project Rachel in January 2021. Look for more information in the weeks and months to come, and please pray for all of those who will take part in Project Rachel.

My prayer for all of you during this season of great hope is that you will open yourselves, if even a little, to God’s love for you. May your Catholic Kitchens be filled with food, drink and lively conversation.

Christ’s Peace.
