
Mater Dei and Reitz Memorial High Schools in Evansville both opened the 2025 football seasons with convincing home wins.
Mater Dei 44, Evansville Central 14
Mater Dei used a strong second quarter to seize control of their season opener against the Evansville Central Bears.
The Wildcats (1-0) earned a 44-14 home win over Evansville Central Aug. 22 at the Reitz Bowl in Evansville. Mater Dei outscored the Bears 28-7 in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. Senior quarterback Tate Mallory threw three touchdown passes to Nolan Schickel in the second quarter. Running back Caden Thacker added a 3-yard touchdown run to help the Wildcats to the 28-7 halftime lead.
Mallory and Thacker connected on their fourth combined touchdown of the day in the second half. Thacker added his second rushing touchdown of the game in the second half.
Mater Dei opened their road slate with a game at Castle High School in Newburgh Aug. 29.
Reitz Memorial 36, Jasper 14
Reitz Memorial shutout Jasper in the first half in their convincing win in their season opener.
Reitz Memorial (1-0) earned a 36-14 home win over the Wildcats in their season opener. Reitz Memorial outscored Jasper 29-0 in the first half in the win.
Junior quarterback Luke Brown went 7-9 passing for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Running back Dylen Kendrick led the Tigers with 70 yards rushing and a rushing touchdown. Gene Aimone also added a rushing touchdown. Luke Dockery hauled in 3 catches for 59 yards and a touchdown. Maxx Anslinger also hauled in a touchdown reception. Jake Brackett and Grayson Carter led the Tiger defense with 9 total tackles. Bracket and Wesley Kelley each recorded an interception. Kelley returned his interception 103 yards for a touchdown. Conner Hoar registered a sack.
Reitz Memorial hosted Evansville North Aug. 29.
