Mater Dei’s Hulme named SIAC Coach of the Year

Special to The Message

Mater Dei High School in Evansville recently announced that head girls soccer coach Maura Hulme was honored as the 2024 Southern Indiana Athletic Conference (SIAC) Coach of the Year.

Since stepping into the head coach role three years ago, Hulme has led the Lady Wildcats to three consecutive sectional championships. Hulme’s leadership propelled Mater Dei to two regional championship titles. This season culminated in a narrow loss to Lawrenceburg, who eventually won the state title. Mater Dei finished the season with a 16-3 record and placed second in the SIAC standings.

“My hope for this program is that we continue to build a positive culture,” Hulme said in a press release. “We have such a strong Mater Dei family and community, and I want to keep that tradition alive. We’ll keep working together to compete with some of the bigger schools out there.”

Hulme’s career began as a four-year starter on the University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team. She first discovered her passion for coaching during her junior season at the University of Southern Indiana. Since then, she has dedicated herself to both coaching and professional fitness training. Hulme serves as the Director of Training at Athletic Republic Evansville, where she trained over 900 athletes, from youth levels to professionals.

The SIAC Coach of the Year award is chosen by nominations from other head coaches across the conference. The recognition highlights Hulme’s contributions not only to Mater Dei’s soccer program but also to the southern Indiana sports community as a whole.
