Everyone knows that a father is a leader, provider and protector of the family. In these roles, he may not micromanage you, but when he speaks up, you know it is important to pay attention. This is because fathers tend to be more reserved in nature, and when they say something it is important that you listen.
My family is composed of my parents, me and two of my siblings. I am the oldest of three children. Both of my parents work full time, and both of my siblings are in college currently. My brother, Cole, is a senior at Purdue University. My sister, Kari Ann, is a freshman at Vincennes University Jasper Campus.
As I grew up, I noticed these qualities in my father. First, he always appointed one of his children to lead in the prayer before meals. Second, he has one heck of a work ethic. Finally, he was always there for us. He was at our sporting events, 4-H events, and anytime one of his children got an award, he was there.
Some titles of the foster father of Jesus are diligent protector of Christ, pillar of families and model of artisans.
As we go through the year of St. Joseph, I have noticed many of my father’s qualities align with that of St. Joseph. He is a protector of his family. My dad is the central pillar of my family. My dad is an artisan in the modern sense of being one who works with his hands and has a diligent work ethic.
Everyone knows that a father is a leader, provider and protector of the family. In my discernment toward the priesthood, I hope to embody the qualities that I have seen in my father and St. Joseph.
