MEO and Catholic Schools support all children

A Place for All

Our Catholic schools in the Diocese of Evansville continue expanding resources and services for all children. As a partner with our schools, Marian Educational Outreach sees many schools and teachers working to fulfill a mission of supporting, embracing and molding programs to offer children with disabilities the highest educational experience tailored to each student. At MEO, we believe that Catholic schools are a blessing for our communities and parishes. We strive to ensure that children of all abilities have access to the privilege of Catholic education.

“From an educator's perspective, the most significant benefit of a Catholic education is that faith is the core value of my student's education. Catholic education is more than just religion class and attending Mass; it is something my students can experience and live out every school day,” said Lacey Kunce, resource teacher.

Through Catholic teaching, our school leaders and teachers work diligently to better the lives of their students. There is a profound highlight in choosing Catholic education for a child, especially one with unique abilities. Samantha McClure, Flaget principal in Vincennes, described the benefits of Catholic education, “Everyone surrounding the child including teachers, peers and family, are there to support that student during the development of his or her moral compass.

Regardless of a student's faith background, core values of generosity, self-discipline and responsibility are at the heart of all we teach and do.

The Catholic school community embraces a partnership with families. Having a strong partner to collaborate together to best meet the child’s needs is key in making sure a child can reach their fullest potential. St. Wendel Catholic School Principal Hallie Scheu explained, “When our parents and staff work together, we can see the difference in overall health and well-being of students. When everyone is working towards the same goal it is accomplished so much quicker.

“As a special education teacher, I advocate for my students daily. I support who they are and celebrate all the qualities that make them special. Instead of trying to mold them, I find learning styles that best meet their needs to help them achieve their goals and realize their purpose,” said Jessica Hames, resource teacher.

The work of Marian Educational Outreach supports schools and their discipleship in an ongoing effort to navigate the changing needs of our children. McClure said, “Discipleship is about challenging others and growing alongside them to deepen your faith and love in Christ. My work is centered around connecting every person in my building to someone who can support them in strengthening their relationship with God. I am fortunate to be discipled by other administrators, priests, teachers, students and parents in my work and life each day. It is important for people who are considering a Catholic education for their children to understand that (at the Diocese of Evansville) we grow and learn together.”

Please join me in thanking and praying for the school leaders and teachers of our Diocese. Marian Educational Outreach is truly grateful for the selfless work that our school personnel give to support our children. May they always know of our support and prayers as they carry out the mission of MEO each day. God Bless!
