By John Rohlf, The Message assistant editor
Over the past 55 years, The Message, Southwestern Indiana’s Catholic Community Newspaper, and the Diocese of Evansville have brought news to you, our diocesan community, through our print newspaper, digital edition and more recently, through our website at evdiomessage.org.
Over the past year, we at the diocese have focused more on our digital presence and utilizing digital media to reach more of our diocesan community.
Since early 2024, we have posted our stories published in The Message on our social media pages on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). We will include links to our social media pages at the end of this editorial.
Along with putting our stories on our social media pages, you will also find photo galleries and videos on our social media accounts. For a large number of the events we cover, we post photo galleries on our website (evdiomessage.org). The three most recent photo galleries can be found at the bottom of our home page, while the rest are located under the Photo Galleries tab at the top of our main page.
Video is one of the more recent initiatives for The Message and the diocese as a whole. As you may have noticed, we produce videos for several events we cover for The Message. These videos can be found on our website under Photo Galleries on the home page and on the Videos tab next to Photo Galleries tab at the top of our main page. You can also find our videos posted on our Diocese of Evansville Facebook and YouTube pages.
Additionally, we are also utilizing video to share news and stories of what is happening throughout the diocese. As you may have noticed, we produced videos highlighting a dozen ministries as part of the diocese’s 2024-2025 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Through these videos, those in the diocese heard stories from our priests and seminarians to the impact of the Red Bird Ministries program and those involved in Savio and Siena for youth in the diocese, and so many more initiatives.
For those who are interested in diocesan operations as a whole, you can hear a high-level overview from Diocesan COO and Chancellor Dean Happe (https://bit.ly/4lrfc7l). We are also in the process of producing videos with the directors of various ministries in the diocese, with a focus on highlighting how they serve those in the diocese, so the faithful across the diocesan community can learn more about our various ministries. Those are expected to be released later this year, starting sometime in the fall, on our diocesan website (evdio.org), as well as on our Diocese of Evansville Facebook and YouTube pages.
We truly hope these and other digital initiatives allow us to reach more of you in the diocesan community or reach you in a different way. The intent of these changes is not to replace The Message and all of the good work that goes into our print product, but rather to supplement the work already being done and tell all of the great things going on across our diocese using the technology available to us.
We appreciate your continued support of The Message to tell the stories of what is happening throughout our faithful diocese. Our hope is through utilizing our websites, social media and producing videos, we will be able to better tell the great stories in our diocese and reach all of you. I ask that you look at our websites, social media pages and videos we have produced up until this point and look for more content in the future. If you have any ideas on a good story to tell or any feedback on our digital initiatives, you can reach us at The Message by email at [email protected] or by phone at 812-424-5536.
