Reitz Memorial names Megan Wagler Director of Cross Country

Officials at Evansville’s Reitz Memorial High School have announced the appointment of Megan Wagler to serve as Director of Cross Country. Megan takes over the Boys and Girls Cross Country team and succeeds Maria Heathcott, who stepped down as the head coach at the end of the season.

Coach Wagler is a familiar face for the Tigers; she has been an assistant coach for cross country for the last two seasons, and spent one season as the distance coach for the track and field team at Memorial.

She said, “I am overly appreciative to be given the opportunity to be the cross country coach at Memorial High School. I have a great passion for the sport of running, and I am excited to be able to share my passion and knowledge. I look forward to continuing to work with the cross country athletes in this new role, and I’m excited to see what is in store for the future of Memorial Cross Country.”

LIsted below are Coach Wagler”s accomplishments as a runner for The University of Southern Indiana:

2019-20

CROSS COUNTRY: Earned Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors after competing for the Eagles in one meet and finishing 88th at the GLVC Championships.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Earned Academic All-GLVC honors after competing in three meets for USI in the mile and 3,000 meters; finished 18th at the Greyhound Invitational in the mile with  a time of 5:53.73.

2020-21

CROSS COUNTRY: Earned Academic All-GLVC honors after finishing 35th at the GLVC Championships; competed in all three of USI's meets, finishing in USI's top-seven at the season-opening GLVC Triangular; finished ninth at the GLVC Triangular and 18th at the GLVC East Divisional.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Appeared in one race, finishing fifth in the 3,000 meters at the SIU Carbondale Don DeNoon Dual.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Earned Academic All-GLVC honors after finishing fifth in the 10,000 meters and 12th in the 5,000 meters at the GLVC Championships; also saw action in the 1,500 meters during the outdoor season.

2021-22

CROSS COUNTRY: Named Academic All-GLVC; competed in three meets, finishing 66th in the GLVC Championships; received the Council of President's Academic Excellence Award.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Ran the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters in three meets, finishing 13th in the 5,000 meters in the GLVC Indoor Championships.

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Competed in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters in five meets, finishing sixth in the 10,000 meters in the GLVC Outdoor Championships; earned Academic All-GLVC; received the Council of President's Academic Excellence Award.
