Mater Dei High School in Evansville will have a new leader in the dugout this spring.

Mater Dei Athletics Director Sam Fleming recently announced the hire of Adam Schiff as the new head coach of the boys baseball program. The Mater Dei alumnus brings over 10 years of coaching experience to the Mater Dei baseball program.

“I think it’s always something I’ve had in the back of my mind is wanting to get back to Mater Dei and coach and coach baseball if it was ever a possibility,” Schiff said. “I think a window opened up here that makes sense. And I think it was just a great opportunity for me to give back to a school and a baseball program that meant so much to me.”

As a student at Mater Dei, Schiff was a varsity athlete in baseball, basketball and football. Schiff was a member of state champion and state runner-up baseball teams. He also earned all-state, two All-SIAC and two All-City nominations. In football, he received All-State, All-SIAC and All-City credentials in football and was a Mr. Football finalist. He earned two varsity letters and was the Kiwanis recipient in basketball.

After his high school career, he continued his athletic and academic career at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, where he was a three-year starter for the baseball team. He was inducted into Mater Dei’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

“We believe that Coach Schiff and his staff will lead our young men in positive ways both on and off the field,” Fleming said. “Coach Schiff has had a lot of success while coaching Top Tier and will be implementing his training programs that have allowed him that success here at Mater Dei. We are excited to continue the tradition of success that Mater Dei baseball has established with talented alumni like Coach Schiff and his staff.”

Coach Schiff and his wife, Jamie, are proud parents of three children: Palmer, Spencer and Berkley. They attend Evansville’s Resurrection Parish.

We will have a full story on Schiff’s hire as the Mater Dei head baseball coach in a future issue of The Message.
