Diocese of Evansville seminarian Jacob Schneider was one of 11 seminarians to receive the ministry of acolyte Feb. 12 in the St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology’s St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. Archbishop Charles C. Thompson installed the acolytes. An acolyte assists a deacon or priest, primarily in the celebration of Mass. He attends to the needs of the altar, may distribute communion as an auxiliary minister and may be entrusted with the public veneration of the Blessed Sacrament. He does not give the Benediction, which is reserved for a priest or deacon.
