Sisters of Providence celebrating Jubilees

Seven Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, with ties to the Diocese of Evansville, are celebrating Jubilees this year. 

Three Sisters reached the 75-year milestone. Sister Mildred Giesler, formerly Sister Alma Joseph, was born in Jasper. She entered the Congregation in January 1944. She professed first vows Aug. 15 1946, and final vows Aug. 15 1951. During her time in the diocese, Sister Mildred ministered as a teacher at St. Joseph in Jasper from 1965-1976 and in religious education at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Jasper from 1976-1979. 

Sister Margaret Norris, formerly Sister Marie Angeline, was born in Jasper. She entered the Congregation July 22, 1949, from St. Joseph Parish in Jasper. She professed first vows Jan. 23, 1952, and final vows Jan. 23, 1957. During her time in the diocese, Sister Margaret ministered as a teacher at Assumption in Evansville from 1960-1962, as a teacher at Tenth Street School in Jasper from 1969-1978, a teacher at Jasper Middle School from 1978-1983, a teacher at Fifth Street School in Jasper from 1983-2001 and as a tutor and volunteer in the Jasper area from 2001-2008.  

Sister Joann Quinkert, formerly Sister Joan Margaret, was born in New Albany. She professed first vows Aug. 15, 1951, and final vows Aug. 15, 1956. During her time in the diocese, she ministered as a teacher, principal and superior at St. Simon in Washington from 1965-1967 and as superior and principal at St. Simon from 1968-1970. 

Additionally, four Sisters reached the 70-year milestone. 

Sister Kathleen Dede, formerly Sister Marie Arthur, was born in Terre Haute. She entered the Congregation Feb. 2, 1954. She professed first vows Aug. 15, 1956, and final vows Aug. 15, 1961. During her time in the diocese, she ministered as a teacher at St. Peter in Linton from 1967-1968. 

Sister Joseph Fillenwarth was born in Indianapolis. She entered the Congregation Jan. 4, 1954. She professed first vows Aug. 15, 1956, and final vows Aug. 15, 1961. During her time in the diocese, she ministered as a teacher at Sacred Heart in Evansville from 1956-1957. 

Sister Dorothy Larson, formerly Sister Margaret Marian, was born in Chicago. She entered the Congregation Feb. 2, 1954. She professed first vows Aug. 15, 1956, and final vows Aug. 15, 1961. During her time in the diocese, she ministered as a teacher at Good Shepherd School in Evansville from 1960-1967. 

Sister Marilyn Trobaugh, formerly Sister Robert Louise, was born in Lafayette. She entered the Congregation Jan. 4, 1954. She professed first vows Aug. 15, 1956, and final vows Aug. 15, 1961. During her time in the diocese, she ministered as a teacher at Holy Family School in Jasper from 1966-1967.
