BECAUSE I AM CATHOLIC!

In the spring, when everything comes back to life, it seems that our communities come alive, too. Every year, we have the opportunity to see how all the parishes of the diocese begin to celebrate so many events that unite us. In the Hispanic community - from the month of March until today - we have not stopped celebrating event after event, which show us that our communities are alive, full of energy, joy and zeal for the gospel.
We have had:
- Women's events, where about 60 women have met monthly to reflect on our identities as daughter, sister, bride/wife, and mother.
- Youth events where about 30 young people from junior high/middle school and high school met every other week to talk about acceptance, concluding with a Retreat at the Catholic Center, where 33 young people arrived to spend a whole day talking about what young people are looking for.
- A retreat for all the liturgical ministries and Hispanic leaders of the Diocese, where more than 90 people gathered.
- Celebrations of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we saw how many of our brothers and sisters received the sacraments of First Communion, Confirmation and Baptism during Easter!
- Meetings to discuss spiritual books at Dale's Book Club.
- Our first premarital retreat in Spanish, where five couples shared about crucial topics for a happy marriage.
- Celebrations for Mother's Day.
- Beautiful spiritual retreats of the Cursillos for women and men where more than 30 women participated and had the joy of meeting Jesus Christ. And the one for men that is about to happen in a few weeks -and I know that God is waiting for them with open arms to pour out his graces.
- The Christ's renews his parish retreat for men at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Washington, which had more than 30 brave men who have decided to commit themselves to God and to their parish.
Wow; and I know I'm missing out on many other memorable and special events from each parish.
How beautiful to know that the Hispanics of the Diocese, although we come from different countries and different customs or cultures, bring with us a faith that is alive! And we come to the parishes to share our spiritual and cultural wealth, to work hard with love for our God and his beautiful bride, the Church, which we are all a part of - including you and me!
That is why I am Catholic; because until this day, I have not found another group, organization or other entity that loves me, accepts me for who I am - and that even if I arrive in a new state or a new country, I am received as I would be at home. As a true son or daughter, a brother or sister, this is my Catholic family, where we can witness how much the Holy Spirit does when our heart is open even just a little. When we generously give God a little of all that he gives us. The Holy Spirit vivifies his Church, and the Church is alive in our Diocese.
En la primavera, cuando todo reverdece y vuelve a la vida, pareciera que nuestras comunidades cobran vida también. Cada año tenemos la oportunidad de ver como todas las Parroquias de la Diocesis empiezan a celebrar tantos eventos que nos unen. En la comunidad Hispana - Desde el mes de Marzo hasta hoy - no hemos dejado de celebrar evento tras evento, que nos demuestran que nuestras comunidades están vivas, llenas de energía, de Alegría y de celo por el evangelio.
Hemos tenido:
- Eventos de Mujeres en donde alrededor de 60 mujeres, nos hemos reunido mensualmente para detenernos y reflexionar en nuestra identidad como Hija, Hermana, Novia/Esposa, y Madre.
- Eventos de Jóvenes en donde alrededor de 30 jóvenes de Junior High/ Middle School y de High School se reunieron cada quince días para hablar de la aceptación, concluyendo con un Retiro en el Centro Católico, en donde llegaron 33 jóvenes para pasar un día entero hablando de que es lo que buscan los jóvenes como ellos.
- Tuvimos un retiro para todos los servidores de los diferentes ministerios de la liturgia y líderes Hispanos de la Diocesis, en donde llegaron más de 90 personas.
- ¡Celebramos la Resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y vimos como muchos de nuestros hermanos recibieron los sacramentos de la Primera Comunión, Confirmación y Bautismos durante la Pascua!
- Reuniones para discutir libros espirituales en el Book club de Dale.
- Tuvimos nuestro primer retiro prematrimonial en español en donde 5 parejas compartieron sobre temas cruciales para un matrimonio feliz.
- Celebraciones para el día de las madres.
- Además de los bellos retiros espirituales de los Cursillos para mujeres y hombres, en donde más de 30 mujeres participaron y tuvieron la dicha de encontrarse con Jesucristo. Y el de hombres que está por llegar y que sé que Dios los está esperando con los brazos abiertos para derramar sus gracias.
- El retiro de Cristo renueva su parroquia para hombres en la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza en Washington, que tuvo a más de 30 hombres valientes que han decidido comprometerse con Dios y con su parroquia.
¡Wow! y sé que se me están escapando muchos otros eventos memorables y especiales de cada parroquia.
Que bello saber que los hispanos de la Diocesis, que aunque venimos de diversos países y diferentes costumbres o culturas, traemos con nosotros una ¡fe viva! Y llegamos a las parroquias a compartir nuestra riqueza espiritual y cultural, a trabajar arduamente con amor por nuestro Dios y su bella esposa la Iglesia que somos todos, incluyéndonos tú y yo.
Por eso es que soy Católica, porque hasta hoy no me he encontrado a otro grupo, organización o a otra entidad que me ame, me acepte por quien soy y que aunque llegue a un estado o país nuevo, me reciban como en mi casa. Como un verdadero hijo e hija, un hermano o hermana, esta es mi familia católica, en donde podemos ser testigos de lo mucho que el Espíritu Santo hace cuando se le habré un poquito el corazón. Cuando generosamente se le da a Dios un poco de lo mucho que él nos da. El Espíritu Santo vivifica a su Iglesia y está Iglesia está viva en nuestra Diocesis.
