About 70 liturgical ministers from the six Diocese of Evansville parishes that offer Mass in Spanish gathered at the Catholic Center in Evansville earlier this month for the second half-day retreat organized by the Office of Hispanic Ministry. Theme of the day was “The Joy of Serving.”

Jose Chavez from the Archdiocese of Chicago led participants to reflect on what it means to be called by our Lord, to be a Leader for others and how to joyfully serve as the body of Christ in our parishes. It was a day of reflection, and community-building, and it included the sharing of struggles and challenges in ministry with one another.

Participants were reminded and sent forward to their parishes with Saint Theresa of Avila’s Prayer: “Christ has no body on earth but ours, no hands but ours, no feet but ours. Ours are the eyes through which the compassion of Christ looks out upon the world, ours are the feet with which he goes about doing good, ours are the hands with which he blesses his people.”
