Special to The Message
The Diocesan Choir is looking for new members to join us for the upcoming Permanent Deacon ordination, which is scheduled for Aug. 13 at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville.
The Diocesan Choir sings for major events for the Diocese, including the ordination and installation of the Bishop; priestly and deaconate ordinations; the annual Chrism Mass; and special diocesan events like the annual Bruté Society Mass and inductions.
The Diocesan Choir includes singers from every parish in the Diocese of Evansville:
- The Diocesan Choir is open to singers from eighth grade and older
- The ability to read music is helpful but not required
- Prior choir experience is helpful but not required
It’s a great opportunity for parish choir members and cantors to come together and experience some beautiful musical prayer.
Diocesan Choir Director Jeremy Korba said, “The choir is a great opportunity for musical families. It also serves as a good opportunity for singers and cantors from smaller parishes to connect with a larger group. In some cases the diocesan choir sections – tenor, bass and so on are larger than some of the parish choirs.”
Jeremy noted that the choir has made a pilgrimage to Italy, performing for Pope Benedict XVI and in concert throughout Italy.
He added, “The choir’s size and scope allow us to perform a unique and larger repertoire.”
All are invited to join the choir based on the guidelines above. Practices for the Aug. 13 Diaconate ordination are scheduled for:
- 2-4 p.m. CDT July 31
- 6-7:30 p.m. CDT Aug. 2
- 2-4 p.m. CDT Aug. 7
- 6-7:30 p.m. CDT Aug. 9
All practices are held in St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
