First: We have to have a positive image of the Christian person. In the Gospels, every time Jesus meets his disciples, they are in fear and Jesus always greets them: peace be with you. The Resurrection is our sure hope for us that God does not want to punish or abandon us.

The Resurrection is the new beginning in the history of human life. It is the beginning of a new self in the life of Christ. We have to think of ourselves as renewed people. We have the power to change our lives and walk and grow as disciples of Jesus.

Through Baptism we have received the power of the Holy Spirit to change and grow in the image and likeness of God in which we have been created. Thus, we act at Jesus' invitation to mission with confidence that God will use us and transform us. Never in fear or out of fear.

Second: Listen to the Word of God. Jesus is our Good Shepherd; we his sheep listen to the Word of our Shepherd. We hear the voice of our Good Shepherd through the Scriptures, the living Word of God. As Saint Jerome said: ignorance of the Scriptures in ignorance of Christ.

Third: The Christian life is a mission. Jesus calls us to mission; to bear witness to the power of God in our lives. Announce the gospel with our own life testimony.

The Church is the new creation, which carries the evangelizing mission of Christ to the whole world. We are called to excellence, not mediocrity.

Confirmation is accepting the invitation to our part in the mission of the Church with the gifts and talents that the Holy Spirit has poured into us for mission.

Fourth: The Christian life can only be lived in community. We are a community of alliance. We are united in community through the Eucharist. We are baptized to belong to the new covenant, to the new People of God, to the community of the baptized. We need to get more and more out of our comfort zone to meet others, especially the most needy and underprivileged.

We are called to live in unity to be witnesses of the gospel. The center of our community is the Eucharist. In the Eucharist we all receive God's love in an equal way. Nobody is more or less than nobody, we are all one as children of God created in the image and likeness.

In this year we celebrate Saint Joseph, a man chosen by God for this special mission of protecting and caring for Jesus and the Virgin Mary. Saint Joseph, who saw the Virgin with the dignity of a daughter of God by not judging her and allowing her to be stoned; but on the contrary, protected and cared for her. So, we learn from Saint Joseph to see others with that dignity as children of God. Saint Joseph, who heard the Word of God through the angel, we have to be attentive to the voice of God in our lives. Just as Saint Joseph accepted his mission in his life to care for Jesus and Mary, let us also accept our mission whatever it may be with a willing heart.

May Saint Joseph be an example of Christian courage and intercede for each one of us.

Cuatro Vivencias de la Vida Cristina

Juan Ramirez
