The Synod: We are still listening!

Special to The Message

A few months ago, the Diocese of Evansville began a series of listening sessions aimed at gaining a greater understanding of where our people are in their faith. To date, we have had over 400 people participate in either in-person listening sessions or in the online survey.

There are still a tremendous amount of people we would love to hear from. This information will be used to compile a synthesis of what we have heard throughout the diocese. This synthesis will be part of a larger summary prepared by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, which will be sent to Rome in preparation for the 2023 Synod of Bishops.

While we will make our contribution to the larger Church, we are very much interested in how the experience of the people in our diocese will shape our ministry moving forward. Again, this is not about creating big projects or planning out the next 10 years of programs we will implement; this is about paying attention to how the Holy Spirit is at work in the lives of our people.

I urge you strongly to consider participating in one of the remaining sessions. If you are unable to do so, please take the time to complete an online survey, which takes less than 15 minutes. The questions are focused on your experience of God and what that has meant to you. You may also wish to share the ways you have struggled in faith or felt that you have been walking the path of faith alone.

You can find out more about the Synod and complete an online survey at www.evdio.org/synod. We are ready to listen to what God has been doing in your life.
