Consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on this 75th anniversary of our Diocese

Bishop M. Joseph Siegel determined that it was of the utmost importance that we consecrate ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in this, our 75th anniversary as a Diocese. Mary, Mother of God, is and has been the patroness of our Diocese since it was founded in 1944. This consecration is vital – especially in these difficult times our nation and the whole world are going through. St Louis de Montfort once wrote, "Total consecration to Jesus through Mary is the safest, easiest, shortest and most perfect means of becoming a saint." Bishop Siegel added, "So if we strive for holiness, which is our baptismal vocation, then asking for Our Lady's prayers is the ideal way to address this eternal goal." Therefore, we put ourselves on her maternal lap and place ourselves under her protective mantle, so that she may continue to protect us and guide us to the love of her son Jesus.
Mary is especially linked to the redemptive work of her Son. She "collaborated in a totally unique way to the Work of the Savior for her obedience, her faith, hope and ardent love, to restore the supernatural life of men. For this reason she is our mother in the order of grace" (LG 61). And it was on the cross that Jesus gave us his Mother as our own mother, mother of all Christians represented by the beloved disciple: "he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son.’ 27 Then he said to the disciple,’“Behold, your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his home" (Jn 19:26-27). Our mother always listens to our pleas and can intercede before her son.
We also remember the words of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the hill of Tepeyacac: "Listen and understand the smallest of my sons, that it is nothing which frightens and afflicts you; don’t let your heart be troubled; don't be afraid of this disease, or any other illness and distress. Am I not here? Am I not your mother? Aren’t you under my shadow? Am I not your health? Aren’t you on my lap?” (Nican Mopohua). Today more than ever, many of us need to listen to these words of encouragement and comfort, and consecrate ourselves in body and soul to our mother Mary.
Consecration means giving our hearts and lives to the protection of Mary, giving ourselves completely knowing that she will guide us to love her Son Jesus Christ more fully. And Jesus, with his infinite love and his holy Grace through the Holy Spirit, helps us to live in Holiness. Therefore we have done like many of the Saints over the centuries, Joining St. John Paul II exclaiming "Totus Tuus" "all yours;" and that is how on Sept. 12, the day we commemorate the Most Holy Name of Mary, we will consecrate our lives and our Diocese of Evansville to the Immaculate Heart of our mother Mary.
Consagrándonos Al Inmaculado Corazón de María en este 75 aniversario de nuestra Diocesis
El Obispo M. Siegel determino que era de suma importancia que nos consagráramos al Inmaculado Corazón de la Santísima Virgen María, en este, nuestro 75 aniversario como Diocesis. María madre de Dios es y ha sido la patrona de nuestra Diocesis desde que fue fundada en 1944. Esta consagración es vital especialmente en estos momentos tan difíciles por los cuales está atravesando nuestra nación y el mundo entero. San Luis de Montfort escribió una vez: "La consagración total a Jesús a través de María es el medio más seguro, más fácil, más corto y más perfecto para convertirse en santo". El Obispo Siegel añadió: “Así que si nos esforzamos por la santidad, que es nuestra vocación bautismal, entonces pedir las oraciones de la Virgen es el camino ideal para abordar esta meta eterna.” Por lo tanto, nos ponernos en su Maternal regazo y nos colocamos bajo su manto protector, para que continúe protegiéndonos y guiándonos al amor de su hijo Jesús.
María está unida especialmente a la obra redentora de su Hijo. Ella «colaboró de manera totalmente singular a la obra del Salvador por su obediencia, su fe, esperanza y ardiente amor, para restablecer la vida sobrenatural de los hombres. Por esta razón es nuestra madre en el orden de la gracia» (LG 61). Y fue en la cruz que Jesús nos entregó a su Madre como nuestra madre, madre de todos los Cristianos representados por el discípulo amado: «dijo a su madre: “Mujer, ahí tienes a tu hijo”. Luego le dijo al discípulo: “Ahí tienes a tu madre.” Desde entonces, ese discípulo la recibió en su casa.”(Jn 19,26-27). Como nuestra madre ella siempre escucha nuestras suplicas y puede interceder ante su hijo.
También recordamos las palabras de la Virgen de Guadalupe en el cerrito del Tepeyacac: “Oye y ten entendido hijo mío el más pequeño, que es nada lo que te asusta y aflige; no se turbe tu corazón; no temas esa enfermedad, ni otra alguna enfermedad y angustia. ¿No estoy yo aquí?, ¿No soy tu Madre?, ¿No estás bajo mi sombra?, ¿No soy yo tu salud?, ¿No estás por ventura en mi regazo?” (Nican Mopohua). Hoy más que nunca, muchos necesitamos escuchar estas palabras de aliento y consuelo. Y consagrarnos en cuerpo y alma a nuestra madre María.
Consagrarse significa entregar nuestro corazón y nuestras vidas a la protección de María, entregarnos por completo sabiendo que ella nos guiara para amar más plenamente a su Hijo Jesucristo. Y Jesús, con su infinito amor, por su santa Gracia y a través del Espíritu Santo, nos ayuda a vivir en Santidad. Por lo tanto hemos hecho como muchos de los Santos a través de los siglos. Uniéndonos a San Juan Pablo II exclamando “Totus Tuus” “todo tuyo,” y es así como el 12 de Sept. Día en que conmemoramos el Santísimo Nombre de María consagraremos nuestras vidas y a nuestra Diocesis de Evansville al Inmaculado Corazón de nuestra madre María.
