Betty Marcheschi, left, director of Birthright of Evansville, joins Toni and Lee Askins to begin unloading the fruits of the Diaper Bag Express held by St. Joseph Parish in Vanderburgh County. Toni tells The Message that the work began on Mother’s Day, May 8, when St. Joseph Pastor Father Gene Schroeder presented flowers to mothers and grandmothers. The parish set up a crib to collect donations, and bags were made available to those wishing to donate items for delivery to Birthright. The effort concluded on Father's Day, June 19. Father Gene presented flowers to fathers and grandfathers before the crib was packed away and the Askins loaded their SUV to full capacity for the June 20 delivery at Birthright.
