World Youth Day pilgrims

The Message photos by Tim Lilley

Diocese of Evansville pilgrims to World Youth Day in Portugal join Bishop Joseph M. Siegel, back row, for a July 28 photo in the chapel of Sarto Retreat Center just before beginning their journey to Europe. Father Luke Hassler and Father Tyler Tenbarge concelebrated, and Deacon Philip Rogier served as Deacon of the Mass. World Youth Day runs Aug. 1-6 in Lisbon. During their pilgrimage, our group also will visit other important sites. Jeremy Goebel, Director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, said stops will include the site of the Eucharistic Miracle of Santarem, the chapel of the apparitions in Fatima, including the candlelight vigil. In Lisbon, our pilgrims will attend many WYD events, which will conclude with Mass with Pope Francis and pilgrims from across the world. Several local churches will also house the relics of blesseds and saints who are patrons of WYD. See additional photos inside this issue. Please keep our pilgrims in your prayers.
